In 2006, for the first time in the history of Zambia, its government used an automated system for its national election using the biometric information of the registered voters by loading it into a database through the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s (ECZ) technological partner, the ID Global Solutions Corporation (IDGS).

Because of the successful turnout, the ECZ used the IDSearch technology of IDGS for every national election since 2006.

During its first usage during the 2006 elections in Zambia, IDSearch registered over six million voter fingerprint images and registration records and produced highly accurate Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) templates. Fingerprint match processing and deduplication of over 500 billion records was completed. Other African nations that have selected IdSearch include Ghana, Swaziland, and Guinea.

AFIS is used for biometric enrollment, template production, and template management and de-duplication services. It also offers customized biometric algorithms capable of searching multiple biometric samples simultaneously.
